History of the Sound Cleansing

During the time of the ancient Greeks sound frequencies were often used to treat various health ailments, including indigestion, mental disturbance, and insomnia. It was believed that sound waves could calm the nervous system and balance the physical and spiritual phases of the body

Sound healing has been used in various other cultures for healing and wellness and has led to the creation of various ancient instruments, from Tibetan singing bowls, Bells, Chimes, Gongs, Crystal Bowls, and Conch.

Toward the end of the 19th Century, Scientists started to study the use of music in meditation and healing. Rediscovering that music can impact physical reactions, and reduce blood pressure and heart rate while improving the metabolism.

How Sound Cleansing Works

Sound powerfully affects our lives and is all around us. Regardless of whether you utilize sound instruments or not, there is music around you.

Even a simple walk in nature will encompass you with the symphonious music of nature. Music gives alleviation from torment and distress and makes you feel relaxed.

Sound Cleansing is the act of making waves of symphonious sound which encompasses your body. Regardless of whether you are effectively taking part in the production of the sounds or going about as a detached recipient, you will feel the healing effects of sound cleansing.

As per quantum physics, each cell is made up of small pieces of vibrating matter joined together by magnetic forces. It is accepted that during illness or disease the vibration in the cells is less compelling or there is a decrease in the frequency of the vibration. Wellbeing experts say that when your body is presented to healing sounds, the sound vibration assists with raising the frequency of your body which brings health and spiritual enhancement.

Sound Cleansing Instruments

Sound Healing practitioners use various instruments or sound apparatuses to make various frequencies relying upon an individual's specific needs. These vibrations impact different energy fields of the body influencing the chakra or aura to bring balance to an individual's force energy (prana). This energizes physical, emotional, and spiritual growth and healing.

These are some of the tools commonly used during sound Cleansing sessions:

Tibetan Singing Bowl

 Tibetan Singing Bowl

Tibetan Singing Bowl originated from Ancient Buddhism and is made using a combination of different metals to produce the “sound of the void” which is really the sound of the universe.

To create sound with a singing bowl, firmly press the accompanying mallet in a circular motion against the bowls outside edge or rim. When you hear a bright, clear tone, you can slow down the motion. Use your full arm to make the motion, rather than just rotating your wrist. You can also make the same circular motion against the outside belly of the bowl. Additionally, you can gently stroke the bowl before beginning the circular motion.

For those who have tried this technique before, you know the sonic waves emitted by these bowls awaken our ability to hear much more than what we would normally. As we listen to these sounds, we tend to feel them just as much as we hear them.

Crystal Singing Bowl

How to prepare for a sound cleansing

Preparing for a sound cleansing means preparing yourself for physical and emotional cleansing and healing. Bringing any emotions or thoughts to your sound cleansing session can repress the healing and cleansing process. Be aware of your thought process and try to avoid distractions in order to fully benefit from the practice.

Being mindful in anticipation of your sound cleansing will help relax and prepare you for the process of sound healing. On the day of your sound cleansing, spend your day reading and relaxing

 Before your sound cleansing

Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Sound waves travel better through water. When you are well hydrated, you will have a better experience. Eat light and healthy food. Sound cleansing becomes more impactful when you have an empty stomach. Set your intentions and be positive. Wear warm, comfortable, and flexible clothing.

What happens during sound cleansing

During a sound Cleansing meeting, you will feel exceptional vibrations encompassing your body. Some of you will move to a meditative state. Others may experience an emotional release.

Try to let go of everything holding you back. Every molecule of you is welcome here, so let your feelings come and go. Being open in this manner will help you release deep-rooted emotions. You may have minutes where you feel cheerful or miserable. You may even cry during the meeting. Whatever happens is fine. Allow your feelings to stream and acknowledge the release.

During a sound Cleansing Session, your Therapist may use a variety of tools to create sonic space, which is the frequency range that an instrument or a vocal sound takes up when it is played. Generally, a collection of singing bowls is used, although some sessions may also use tuning forks, chimes, and drums. Each instrument creates its own frequency which will help guide you to a meditative state. These sound waves are known to trigger the creation of theta brain waves, which are associated with deep relaxation and healing.

Different sound instruments serve different purposes. Crystal and singing bowls help to keep you grounded, resonate with your chakra, and allow you to attain a meditative state. Bells and gongs help to remove deeply stuck energy.

The harmonic vibrations produced by singing bowls, gongs, or other sound bathing tools are intended to stimulate alpha and theta brain waves that resonate and trigger the deep meditative state of the brain in a way that stimulates healing.

How to create your Sound Cleansing space

  • Begin by clearing out negative energy from your space. Hold a singing bowl in one hand and use your other hand to strike your bowl with your mallet as you move around your house.
  • Once you have cleansed your space, sit in a peaceful position, and surround yourself with your Sound Instruments. Light a candle to set the mood and increase the flow of spiritual energy.
  • Anchor your intentions on peace, love, or hope and play from your instrument. Connect with the sound resonating from it.
  • Breathe deeply and focus on your intentions. Feel relaxed and let the sound vibration bring deep harmony and inner peace
  • Sing along if you want to, anything that makes you feel empowered. Let your intuition guide you. When you give yourself completely, you will have a wonderful experience and feel vitalized.
